Mexico Creeking Clinic - Instruction Curriculum

Creek Boating Techniques

We teach creek boating using our simple system of 3 fives: 5 things to scout for, 5 decisions to make about your line before you get in your boat, and the 5 components of proper technique to make your chosen line a reality. We will go over these extensively the first morning, and we will be reviewing this information several times throughout the week. Once on the water, we'll give you constant coaching on the technique component you are working on, and what you need to work on next to continue your progression. Our breakdown of techniques gives you one or two things to focus on at a time in a natural order for properly learning to creek boat in style.

Rescue & Safety

Creek boating can be a dangerous activity, and it's important to know how to minimize your risk. We'll talk about how to make good decisions to keep you out of trouble on the creek, and we'll also spend a half day working on rescue skills that you might need if things do go wrong out there.

Physical Training

Creeking is a physical sport, and you will perform better if you have a balance of strength and flexibility. Andria will be teaching one Yoga for Paddlers session to the whole group, and will offer optional morning yoga sessions for those who would like to start each day with a bit of yoga. We'll also cover a few simple exercises to help you gain strength in key places to improve your creek boating.

Gear Selection

We all rely on our equipment on the creeks, and it's important that you know what you're looking for when you shop for gear. We'll have one classroom session on the fundamentals of creek boat design, as well as going over some other key gear choices for creeking.
