Mexico Creeking Clinic - Weather & Gear |
Temps and Apparel Although Mexico has far better winter weather than any other North American paddling destination, it is still winter down there in November. Daytime temperatures can range from the 50s to the 90s - with 65 to 85 degrees being the norm. Although the rainy season is over, it is still very possible that we will get some precipitation while down there. The good news is that the water temps are in the 60s, allowing for fairly warm boating even on the chillier days. For gear, we recommend that everyone bring a drytop and then hope that they spend the whole week in their shorty. Paddling pants are a good idea for those who are cold-natured. It's very important that you bring good paddling shoes, as we will be scouting from rough travertine rock and occasionally walking through the jungle to scout or portage. Sandals are not acceptable for on-river use. |
River Gear Boats - We require that you use a creek boat for this trip. We are happy to provide you with a boat from our fleet of Pyranha creek boats, or you are welcome to use your own boat if you are planning to drive to the clinic.
Other River Gear - You are responsible for bringing your own helmet, spray skirt, approved type III pfd, paddle, and throw rope.
Apparel - You are responsible for bringing sufficient river clothes to keep you warm in the conditions listed above on this page. We also require that you have a sturdy pair of river shoes with a sole. Sandals are not acceptable for on-river use. |
